Dr Badfunk, aka Paul O'Brien, is one of the UKs top human beatboxers, having qualified for the final of the UK Beatbox Championships in 2005 and 2006. He won the North-West heat in 2005 and the North-East heat in 2006, and also defeated 2 time UK champion Beardyman at the Brighton hip-hop festival's Battle Jam in 2005.
Badfunk has performed alongside and collaborated with many of the UK's premier hip hop acts, including Foreign Beggars, Skinnyman, Blade, Taskforce, Stig of the Dump, Dr Syntax, the Scratch Perverts, Koaste, Blak Twang, Elemental, Hinesy Hines, Phi Life Cypher and Killa Kela, to name but a few....
He has performed across the world as a solo artist and toured extensively in the UK with his band Swampfoot, and has also delivered beatbox workshops for the British Academy of New Music, the Brighton Hip Hop Festival, and Soundstudio.
Badfunk is at the forefront of the movement of artists embracing technology to take the artform to new levels: his use of a loopstation and a Kaoss Pad create a multi-timbral sound which traverses many genres of music, from jazz and reggae to techno and drum n bass. His occasional use of harmonica and guitars add a unique flavour to his particular brand of hip hop.
Dr Badfunk was the winner of the second World Connection Talent Quest in April 2009 and is currently working to record a new single at Dubwise Productions studio. The track will be released on the Champion Sound Sampler Vol II later this year.
